     From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

Janez Drnovšek (born May 17, 1950) is a Slovenian politician and statesman, born in Celje, Yugoslavia (today Slovenia).

Drnovsek represented Slovenia in the collective presidency of Yugoslavia during the 1980s, and served as chairman of the collective presidency from 1989 until 1990. While he was chairman of the presidency, he was also chairman of the Non-Aligned Movement. Soon after, Slovenia seceded from Yugoslavia, but Drnovsek continued to be successful in politics. He was former 2nd prime minister of independent Slovenia from 1992 to 2002 (with a brief interruption for a few months in 2000) after Lojze Peterle, the 1st Prime Minister. He was elected to be the 2nd president of Slovenia for a mandate 2003 - 2008.

In 2004 he will face charges, in front of courts for War Crime in The Hague, International Court of Justice, Serbain and Slovenian courts, for command responsibility for shooting 40 unarmed Yugoslaw Army men while they were pulling back from Slovenia. He will be charged together with Milan Kucan and Janez Jansa. Courts will decide are those charges reasonable. This masacre was a trigger of Yugoslaw wars.
