Summary: Lake Turkana, also known as Lake Rudolf or Lake Rudolph, is a lake in the Great Rift Valley in Kenya (although the far northern end of the lake crosses into Ethiopia). The lake covers a surface area of 6405 sq km (2473 sq mi). The lake is sometimes known, more poetically, as the Jade Sea. Lake Turkana

Lake Turkana, also known as Lake Rudolf or Lake Rudolph, is a lake in the Great Rift Valley in Kenya (although the far northern end of the lake crosses into Ethiopia). The lake covers a surface area of 6405 sq km (2473 sq mi).

The lake is sometimes known, more poetically, as the Jade Sea. It contains Africa's largest population of Nile crocodiles, as well as Nile perch.

The hominid skeleton known as Turkana Boy was found near Lake Turkana in 1984.
