Texas Our Texas
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
Texas Our Texas was selected as the state song of Texas in 1929 by the state legislature. Older songs such as The Yellow Rose of Texas and Dixie\ were also considered but ultimately it was decided a new song should be composed. After a state wide competition the prize went to Fort Worth natives William J. Marsh and Gladys Yoakum Wright.
The first word of the third line was originally largest, but when Alaska became the largest state when it was admitted to the United States in 1959, the word was replaced with boldest.
